Default How do I compile pst files?

Does ONE pst file have all Outlook info within it (i.e. Inbox, Sent,
Archived, Calendar, Notes, Tasks, etc)? When I upgraded Outlook it loaded a
few different pst files I had saved and named them Contacts, Contacts1, etc.
I want to only use Contacts1 and have it replace the Contacts file, but it
always defaults and opens Contacts (which is not the info I want to use).

What is a good procedure to backup the info I want to use (including all
folders (i.e. Inbox, Sent, Calendar, etc)) and then load it into Outlook? Do
I need to get rid of what's in Outlook now since it's showing various files
(i.e. Contacts, Contacts1, Calendar, Calendar1)?

Thanks.
