I know how to go into the settings for Outlook Address Book and set it for
LastName, FirstName on an individual basis. There are lots of posts on this. My question is, in an Outlook 2003 deployment how do I set up the OAB default to be "LastName, FirstName"? Most users want this and it is not reasonable to ask them to step through setting this up. |

Here are the places that you can adjust this setting:
1# -Select Tools/Options/Contact Options -Select Last, First format for all the new created contacts. 2# -Select Tools/E-mail accounts/View or change existing directories or address books -Double-click Outlook Address Book, show name by Last, First More information: How to display the Contacts list in the last name, first name format in Outlook 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/?id=823478 OL2002: How to Change the File As Field for All Contacts http://support.microsoft.com/?id=291144 Regards, Pat Cai Microsoft Online Partner Support When responding to posts, please "Reply to Group" via your newsreader so that others may learn and benefit from your issue. ===================================================== Business-Critical Phone Support (BCPS) provides you with technical phone support at no charge during critical LAN outages or "business down" situations. This doesn't answer the question I asked. In my post I already said I know
how to do this on an individual basis. My question is, when I am deploying Office to hundreds of users, how do I preset the OAB default to be LastName, FirstName? Is there a registry setting, a policy, a transform setting or something to accomplish this? I am sorry for my misunderstanding before. Now I understand that you want
to make this setting in the Office deployment script in domain layer. According to my test result, we cannot achieve this on the deploy layer. In fact, it is a known issue I have handled before. Though we can specify the Exchange server address and address book settings in the deployment wizard, we cannot control the name display order on the client that it will show the local contact's name as "Last, First". Actually, I have tried on several machines and consulted with a couple of my associates on the topic as well. We tested PRF settings and Policy template changes as well as an attempt to modify the Registry to have the UI settings reflect the changes and they will not. The reason that the setting cannot be controlled via PRF, Policy or .REG file is that the GUID where the setting is housed is a dynamically set GUID that is different on each machine and in each Profile. The only alternative currently is to physically be at the workstation and make the changes to the users' Outlook Profiles or possibly have remote control over their system and manipulate the profile manually that way. I am sorry for any inconvenience might bring on you. If you have any further concerns, please feel free to post here.
