Adding "News" item to MS Outlook tool bar

Hi,

I'm running MS Office 2003 over Win2000Pro, all with latest service
packs/security updates.

I tried to add a News item to the MS Outlook toolbar. Using guidance from
Outlook's Help, I opened the Customize dialog, selected the Commands tab and
dragged the News item to the Outlook toolbar. That created a "News" item
with no icon and the letter "s" underlined. So far, so good.

When I subsequently tried to open the Newsreader by clicking that item, I
got a Windows Explorer window listing a bunch of DLLs in G:\Program
Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033.

I reopened the Customize dialog and found that the Notes entry was no longer
listed in the Commands tab.

1. How do I recover from this debacle?

2. What did I do wrong when trying to add News to the Outlook toolbar.

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

Hi Russ,

I've got email and news both working with OE and ALL my existing stuff has
been restored (including email I got in the interim after installing and
accessing email in Outlook because I kept the msgs I received on the
server.) So computer life is beautiful, again.

It would be nice to restore Outlook to its pristine state (i.e., without the
broken "news" toolbar button, but if it really bugs me, I can always
reinstall Outllook and readjust the Internet Options as you indicated.

I don't understand your question.
The instructions I posted return Outlook to its default state with regards
to the News command.
