Hi people, I recently messed up the installation of Outlook 2003 (I think). I copied old .pst files from Office XP to the new installation and had duplicate folders. I created a new folder 'My Folders', but cannot delete the old one 'Personal Folders'. When I try, I get the message "The operation failed. An object could not be found". Only the new folders are listed in the Data File Management dialog. Is there a way I can start from scratch without reinstalling Outlook/Office? Or is there a better way to do this? Thanks in advance ------------------------------------------------ ~~ Message posted from http://www.ExcelTip.com/ ~~View and post usenet messages directly from http://www.ExcelForum.com/ |

Now I have duplicat personal folders files, but if I delete anything out of one, it delete it out of the other as well! How do I get rid of the duplicate withou losing my saved Outlook info? :confused ----------------------------------------------- ~~ Message posted from http://www.ExcelTip.com ~~View and post usenet messages directly from http://www.ExcelForum.com |

Hiya, I did find a solution to this: If you just did this and still have the backup of your old PST file skip #1 & #2. If you have been using Outlook with duplicate folder and want to keep any messages sine you upgraded, follow al instructions. Note: This will recover your e-mail only. For Contacts also, jus export them and re-import them. 1) Export your current PST file to another PST file (File - Export) 2) Select your Personal Folders, and all subfolders. Don't worry abou the duplicates. 3) Use Detect & Repair (Help menu) and select BOTH checkboxes. Yo will need the Office 2003 CD. 4) Follow the instructions. Where it's done, Outlook will be reset as if you had just installe it. When you start the first time, you will initalize a new user lik before. Once this is done, the FIRST thing you have to do, is IMPOR your old PST file. There will be an option to merge duplicate folders etc. DO NOT copy your old PST file into the Outlook directory. Import your contacts, if any. Do this for all users on the system (each WinXP user id). Hope that helps... worked perfectly for me ----------------------------------------------- ~~ Message posted from http://www.ExcelTip.com ~~View and post usenet messages directly from http://www.ExcelForum.com |
