I recently purchased a SONY VAIO desktop, which has Windows XP installed.
I've been able to set up Outlook Express - which works great - however, I've purchased the full-blown Windows XP Office 2003 and have problems having the full-blown Outlook recognize my Verizon DSL connection. I've called Verizon tech support, but they're stumped, too. I've set up an e:mail account, and pretty much copied all the settings from the (working) Outlook Express over to Outlook 2003. But, when I test the Account Settings, I get this error, which is almost identical to the outgoing (SMTP) error message: Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Outlook could not connect to the incoming mail server (POP3). The problem could be your SSL or port settings for the incoming server. Verify your port and SSL settings under More Settings on the Advanced tab. My Outgoing server tab setting is "Requires authorization", and "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"; My Connection tab is "Connect using my local area network (LAN)"; nothing else is checked; My Advanced tab is POP3 = 110; SMTP is 25, no boxes are checked. I'm perplexed as to why my Express version works great, but the full blown 2003 doesn't work, essentially with the same settings. I've tried almost everything I can think of - if anyone can give me some guidance, I'd greatly appreciate it. |

Try clearing the option "Requires authorization". Also check your firewall

Thanks for the tips - I'll try that as soon as I get home. I'm not sure about the firewall - its a new system and might have something that's already preset that I'll have to disable/modify Question: If all the settings are similar (or identical) between Outlook Express and Outlook 2003, do you have any idea as to why Express should work and 2003 won't? This could indeed be caused by the firewall. A lot of firewalls these days
