update from 97 to xp

I have Office 97 on my computer which is a 400 with
windows 98. I have purchased office xp professional.

How do I install xp. I installed the disk, but after
going thru all the girations, I still have 97 on my
computer and not xp.

I can't unstall 97 as I don't have the disks to do so.
