What directions from Microsoft did you follow? You can set up a default user profile using the Custom Installation Wizard to create a .prf file.

Sue,
Thanks for the reply. The directions I followed were as followed: Created a second user account on the machine, logged on as that new user and installed Outlook on that users desktop. Then the Preferences Migration began. Any thoughts on how to stop the preferences migration??? Thanks, Steve >-----Original Message----- >What directions from Microsoft did you follow? Back up a few steps. What operating system? Is this a network environment? If so, are you using roaming profiles?

Sue,
This is a standalone PC running XP and using Outlook 2002. I am trying to setup two people to use Outlook with seperate inbox, contacts, etc. These users have a POP3 account with Dell host. User A is up and running with no issues. Following Microsofts help tips I created a second user on the XP machine. Microsoft then explained that all you needed to do was to logon as that user and when the new desktop for user B was created you would launch the outlook installation and configurethe POP3 account information a seperate inbox, contacts and etc. would be created. What happens is that I logon to the desktop as user B, launch Outlook, it installs outlook and then starts a "preferences migration" step which transfers all the inbox, contact, etc information from user A outlook to users B outlook. I then fill in the POP3 account information. Then when sending mail from hotmail to user A it shows up in both mailboxes and when I send mail to user B it shows up in both mailboxes. I followed MS tips on another machine running OS 2000 and Outlook 2002 and there was no "preferences migration" and everything seemed to work fine. Any ideas Thanks, Steve >-----Original Message----- >Back up a few steps. What operating system? Is this a network environment? Still looking for specific operating system information. XP Home and XP Pro have very different concepts of "new user" and that may be the issue.

Any chance that you have the "System Suitcase" third-party utility installed? It has a feature called "preference migration." The reason I ask is that I've never seen anything like what you describe when logging on as a new user in Windows XP PRo.
