automatic scheduling and e-mail reminder in advance

The idea
Create an Excel list with users and their e-mail adres and 0-5 scheduled appointments
Use (VB)scripting to read Excel and put (all or 1 persons) appointments in Outlook (currently 2000 but going
to Office XP) and put the e-mail address in the comments/description of the appointment
When I start Outlook it should start a script that reads the coming e.g. 7 days and sends a reminder e-mail t
the person by reading the comments/description field

Can such thing be done
Any pointers to examples
Or is there a better way to handle this
