is there a primer (maybe online so i can work thru it today), that kinda
starts at 'a' and goes to 'z' on the process. we use outlook2002 (10.6515.6625) sp3. we have a company that is supposed to send us emails containing certain data fields. they continually forget to fill in some of the blanks. for testing i am working with baby steps. i took an existing email, found the form editor and added a field called 'phone' on the same line as the subject line. i saved my template as an .oft file so i can continue changing later and made a backup. i 'published' the form to my personal folders (maybe this is where i am wrong) and named it caleris. i took the folder these will be in and added from my personal folder the caleris.phone field. i sent myself an email with test stuff in it, and put test stuff in the phone field. the email sends but when i 'view' it altho the column for 'phone' is there nothing is in it. when i open the email it uses the normal email template to fill in w/o my 'phone' field in it. so altho the email i sent is using the correct form, and maybe even had the data. when i try to read it the data isnt showing/coming thru. at the end of this process, once i have made a working form for me. i need to get it be a choice in the main 'email types', ideally Ctrl-N creates a new email, maybe mine can be Ctrl-Z?. then i need to get this into the hands of the rest of my exchange group and then to the company that is doing the emails to us so they can start filling them in properly. all advice appreciated. actually if the time to do this as a newbie could be several hours and someone knowledgeable can do it in under an hour i wouldnt be averse to discussing a fee. thanks. jim |

See http://www.outlookcode.com/d/forms.htm for a link to a webcast and other
resources. Sounds like you might have customized only the compose layout without realizing that message forms have a separate read layout by default. Also, make sure that your email address is set up for rich-text content. See http://www.outlookcode.com/d/sendform.htm See http://www.outlookcode.com/d/launchform.htm for ways to make forms easy to launch. Ctrl+Z is not an option unless you use some separate Windows keyboard shortcut program. -- Sue Mosher, Outlook MVP Author of Microsoft Outlook Programming - Jumpstart for Administrators, Power Users, and Developers http://www.outlookcode.com/jumpstart.aspx "jim sturtz" <jim@sturtzs.com> wrote in message news:%23sY7rgwKEHA.2012@TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl... > is there a primer (maybe online so i can work thru it today), that kinda > starts at 'a' and goes to 'z' on the process. > > we use outlook2002 (10.6515.6625) sp3. > > we have a company that is supposed to send us emails containing certain data > fields. they continually forget to fill in some of the blanks. > > for testing i am working with baby steps. > > i took an existing email, found the form editor and added a field called > 'phone' on the same line as the subject line. > > i saved my template as an .oft file so i can continue changing later and > made a backup. i 'published' the form to my personal folders (maybe this is > where i am wrong) and named it caleris. > > > i took the folder these will be in and added from my personal folder the > caleris.phone field. > > i sent myself an email with test stuff in it, and put test stuff in the > phone field. > > the email sends but when i 'view' it altho the column for 'phone' is there > nothing is in it. when i open the email it uses the normal email template > to fill in w/o my 'phone' field in it. > > so altho the email i sent is using the correct form, and maybe even had the > data. when i try to read it the data isnt showing/coming thru. > > at the end of this process, once i have made a working form for me. i need > to get it be a choice in the main 'email types', ideally Ctrl-N creates a > new email, maybe mine can be Ctrl-Z?. then i need to get this into the > hands of the rest of my exchange group and then to the company that is doing > the emails to us so they can start filling them in properly. > > all advice appreciated. actually if the time to do this as a newbie could > be several hours and someone knowledgeable can do it in under an hour i > wouldnt be averse to discussing a fee. > > thanks. > > jim > > |
