Default How do I work around the "no new fonts may be applied" error?

When updating data files, the error "No more new fonts may be applied in this
worksheet". In some instances I have to click OK several dozen times and
then it'll let me change the data. In other cases, it will never allow it.
Any thoughts?

Simplify the workbook's design (especially charts add lots of "new fonts" in
Excel's perception). Don't wait too long, or you might end up not being able to
open the file at all!
