I see the same as you.
I think it is because Mar appears in a Custom List (for months). I tried including Wed in the source data and it too was sorted to the top, as was S35 which I happen to have in a Custom List of my own. I guess it's a nice feature that if you have a custom list (e.g. of regions) they are automatically sorted according to your list when you make a pivot table. So I guess Microsoft will tell us it is "by design" that items on custom lists come first when the field is not explicitly sorted. Thanks Bill, At least now I know of a work around, and I suppose I will
