Excel 2000 - Multiple files open when starting excel

I have an unusual problem, for some reason whenever I open up my excel it
opens up 10 different files (just different files from my PC, .doc's, .jpg's)
anyway at first I thought my room-mate accidently created a macro on startup,
but therre was nothing in the macro list. can anyone help me? I tried
deleting the normal.dot file, but it is still doing it. If I have to
uninstall/re-install is there a way to get a fresh installation (like it was
in the beginning)

Open Excel and choose Tools, Options. Now on the general tab, remove the path
entered next to "Alternate startup file location".
