Default Excel Issue

Is there a way in Excel to limit the amount of text that
can typed in defined area? For example, lets say I have
10 columns by 5 rows and I want users to type a
description in this area but I don't want them to type
past the 5th row. I want it to automtically stop so they
can't type anymore. Is this possible?? Thanks!!

Derek,

One way would be to protect the worksheet.
Format/Cells/Protection and Unlock the cells that require
data. Then go to Tools/Protection/Protect sheet.

Charlie,

That didn't seem to work.

As long as the user is typing in the cell there is AFAIK no way to limit the
amount of text entered.
However, once the user hits Enter you can use Data>Validation to verify that the
entered text is within limits.
I don't understand what you mean by "I don't want them to type past the 5th row"
