Can somebody help me with some idiot level instructions on how I can setup a
folder on one XP PC to be accessed by other XP PC's on a peer-to-peer network? All the PC's get the IP address from a central hub using DHCP. |

hi friend
so u r using a dhcp based ip configuration i shall suggest u to go to my computer properties and their will find the n/w identification tab click on it .click properties then asigh a unique name to ur computer a then a common group name which is used in all other pc's. now make sure that u have added a fill printer sharing in the local area n/w connection properties. restart ur pc. now u can share . note:give the uid and password of the server if it asks for authentication. plz reply if it worked out. urs s.suresh "davout" wrote: > Can somebody help me with some idiot level instructions on how I can setup a > folder on one XP PC to be accessed by other XP PC's on a > peer-to-peer network? It doesnt matter whether your network uses DHCP or not. Folder sharing method is same for all. You didnt specify whether you are using XP home or Pro. If you are on PRO, just right click the folder -> sharing, give the share name and click OK. If you are using XP home, you have to boot into safe mode, to access the above method. The shared folder can be viewed using \\compname Hope this helps. -- Madhur Ahuja [madhur<underscore>ahuja<at>yahoo<dot>com] Homepage http://madhur.netfirms.com |

Madhur is correct but see also...
http://www.lasa.org.uk/knowledgebas...peer2peer.shtml and http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...d/getsetup.mspx Personally I would buy a router rather than use a x-over cable. A router allows you to ignore Microsofts ICS and is easier to set up in my view as both PC have a similar set up. |

Are you trying to eliminate to the hub/router or just set up the file sharing on the network you have? If the latter than all you need do is read up on "simple file sharing".... http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;304040 With simple file sharing you normally only share data via the All users folder. |
