Excel table won't convert to Access - jet database error

I am using Excel 2000 and Access 2000. On my main PC in
recent weeks any attempt to convert an excel sheet to
Access using the Convert to MSAccess command results in a
message saying that the jet database engine could not
find the object <Sheet1$R1C1:R25C11> or whatever the
range was. It used to work OK.

The knowledge base says this is a problem with 97 on old
files from access 1 or 2 but not with 2000. Anyone know
what I can do?
