Default Windows XP won't start after installing Windows XP Service Pack 2!

I bought a new laptop recently. We have been really happy
with it and have not had any problems at all. However,
yesterday I installed the Windows XP Service Pack 2 cd,
as it's supposed to have better security, etc. Once the
installation was finished, it said that it needed to re-
start Windows. Unfortunately, there seems to now be a
huge problem and Windows won't start! The start-up screen
comes up and starts loading, but then the loading bar
gets stuck and nothing more happens. If I switch the
computer off and back on again, it says that Windows had
a problem re-starting and it gives me different options
to try again:

* safe mode
* start Windows using previous configuration settings
that worked
* start Windows normally.

None of these work! When I tried it in safe mode, a whole
list of MS DOS stuff comes up and it seems to get stuck
on the line which reads:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows\system\32
\drivers\TDI.SYS

What can I do to sort this out???

I have just had the same problem.
I got round it by loading PEBUILDER
(http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/) This creates an image of
your original XP disk and allows you to boot the machine.
I then used the disk checking utility supplied with
PEBuilder. It fixed a file called SIB?? (I did not catch
all of the name). Once this was completed it took around
an hour. I rebooted the machine and everything is great.
Of course if you only have the one computer you will need
to borrow a friend to download this file and create the XP
image.
Hope this helps.
