XP Home will not start up

On start up the screen 'XP did not shut down properly'
appears.
Choose start XP normally them machine shows the XP flash
screen then blue screen of death. Happens so quick cannot
see message.
If I choose any other start up option, the drivers load
then the PC reboots.

I need to keep the data so re-install is not an option. Is
there a fix before I have to take the disk out and put it
in another machine as a slave top rescue the data.
