How to fix the Error Message of Event ID: 1010

The Collect Procedure for the "Tcpip" service in
DLL "C:\WINNT\system32\Perfctrs.dll" generated an
exception or returned an invalid status. Performance data
returned by counter DLL will be not be returned in Perf
Data Block. Exception or status code returned is data
DWORD 0.

I have searched in the KB, but there is no solution for
fix it out. How can I do, as the error message always
alert in everyday. It is so annoying.

SYMPTOMS
When you use Performance Monitor to view TCP/IP performance counters, the
counters may not appear.

The Event log may contain an event that is similar to the following:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Perflib
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1010
Date: 2/28/2003
Time: 3:44:25 PM
User: N/A
Computer: Computer_Name
Description: The Collect Procedure for the "Tcpip" service in DLL
"C:\WINNT\system32\Perfctrs.dll" generated an exception or returned an
invalid status. Performance data returned by counter DLL will be not be
returned in Perf Data Block. Exception or status code returned is data
DWORD 0. Data: 0000: 05 00 00 c0 ...Ŕ

CAUSE
This behavior may occur if you use certain types of network adapters. The
network adapter driver may return description strings to the
CollectTcpIpPerformanceData function that do not contain null terminators.
The sprintf function copies the description strings to a local variable.
However, the sprintf function does not check to make sure that the strings
are not too large for the local variable to hold. As a result, a buffer
overflow may occur. Because the buffer is stored on the stack, the stack
becomes corrupted. This corruption causes an access violation.

RESOLUTION
Hotfix Information
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to
correct the problem described in this article. Only apply it to systems
that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive
additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this
problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000
service pack that contains this fix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support
