After dialing up to the internet on my desktop, I can access a website
or two then I get a message saying the page cannot be displayed. Even Microsoft Windows Update won't come up, however I still have a connection to the internet. I've tried to disconnect and reconnect but still no sites will come up. I replaced the modem, the rj11 cord, had the phone company come in and check the phone lines and phone jacks (all working properly). I updated all the service packs, and my antivirus hasn't found any viruses. I use my laptop in my living room with no problems, so I plugged it into the rj11 I use for my desktop and I have the same problem. (Running XP Home on desktop and Win 98 on laptop). I'm not an expert but know a little and have done what I can. This is extremely frustrating. Any ideas? Thanks |

If the laptop works on dial up from another location in the house but
doesn't work at the same location as the desktop, then your problem is in the jack or phone line.
