Default Lost system event sounds - please help..

I've lost system event sounds after the installation of Ulead's DVD Picture
Show 2. I still have sound from playing CDs, WAV files, etc... just no
system event sounds, like new e-mail and system start-up and shutdown. The
system event sounds (beeps) now use my PC's internal speaker, not my sound
card and external speakers. Apparently, this is a known issue with this DVD
Picture Show 2 and I downloaded and installed an update which claims to fix
this problem.

http://www.ulead.com/tech/dps/dps_ftp.htm

I ran the program "at least once after installing the patch" as instructed,
but I still have not system sounds.

I am running Windows 2000 with all latest updates. I am sure this is a
registry issue.

I have also tried this link, but I do not have this entry in my registry:

http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;en-us;Q262256

Anyone familiar with this issue, please help...

Not familiar. Did you try logging in with a second account after
applying the "patch"? Does it work? If so, then the problem is
probably limited to a damaged "Current User" registry hive for the
original account. The vendor _should_ take responsibility for this.

I was able to fix this problem by deleting the following key form
HKEY_CURRENT_USER:

(Default) REG_SZ

After deleting, it is now set to: "Current value not set". This has resolved
my issue and I got my system sounds back. I wish ULead would post a clear
set of instructions as it is THEIR PROGRAM that caused this problem...

I am experiencing the same issue. I tried to locate the
REG_SZ in the registry but could not find what I think
they are talking about to delete. Can you be specific on
how you did this?

Thanks,

Tommy

In Regedit with left pane focus on HKEY_DURRENT_USER. In the
righthand pane:
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
is nothing.
(Default) REG_SZ
is a value with "no name" but it exists.
As I understand it this valuename needs to be deleted (highlight it,
r-click, Delete).

Mark V is correct and this is exactly how I solved this issue. Just delete
REG_SZ so that you see (value not set) to the right of it...
