I work from home but still use a baby sitter. I have 3
computers in a small LAN and all connect through a
Linksys 4 port router/switch. The router WAN is connected
to the WWW through a cable modem. All function great.

What i need to do is view a web cam from computer #2
(baby's room) on computer #1. How can I do this? I only
want to view the cam from within the LAN.

computer #1 XP Pro
computer #2 XP Home
computer #3 98 SE

The cam is connected to a USB port on computer #2.
I want to do this without haveing to buy a IP cam.

Thank you
Tinker

Tinker, you could install a free (or inexpensive) web server on the XP Home machine and then use the Windows Media Encoder to "stream" the image from the cam on Computer #2.

Here's a list of personal web servers, some free, some moderately priced.

http://microsoft.toddverbeek.com/phttpd.html

The Windows Media Encoder can be downloaded from:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/wi...oad/default.asp

I'd recommend getting version 9.

Once you're all set up, you access the video stream by opening Internet Explorer and typing in http://<machinename>ort Where port is the port you assigned when you set up the streaming broadcast, and machineame is the network name for Computer #2.

For no cost you could run the web cam on computer #2 and
VNC from computer #1 to computer #2. A differnt idea, but
it works and it is free.
