Just installed the service pack 4 to my Win2000
Professional. Trying to install an external DVD burner with horrendous results; it will install but when I try to use any features it gives me a "bus reset" error and it uninstalls from device mgr but NOT from the registry! Needed to edit registry current control set and unable to do so. I AM able to edit software keys in regedit32 but not system. I checked other registry posts especially wonderful info from Dave Patrick re looking at entries in Group Policy, etc. Am operating a single desktop computer -- new 2.4Ghz Pentium4 with Win2000 Professional. I am the Administrator and gave myself full privileges as user also but unable to edit parts of registry even under Administrator. When a key cannot be deleted it says "unable to delete; the key does not give you delete access." I did the *.reg merge Mr. Patrick suggested and checked that the group policy adm template said "User Config\Admin Templates\System\Prevent Access To registry Editing Tools = "Not Configured" Help, please! Am fairly new to Win2000 Professional so may be missing something everyone else knows about! Sincerely, BJ Vreeman |

You can use regedt32.exe to take ownership of the subkey.
