Have less services and applications starting at boot up. Win2k does take
a long time (relatively) to start up, even stripped down. XP normally
takes very little time to get to the desktop. You can go to
www.blackviper.com to learn about services.

For WinXP you can download BootVIS at MS Website... This little tool will
improve your bootsequence.

Have you tried the Hibernate feature?
Look in power options.
