free until at least June (or was that July?)
After that MS hasn't decided yet whether they will charge a fee or offer
this service for free.

Microsoft should definitely keep it free. I think it would actually make it
easier to sell PCs to wary consumers.

My $.02.

Spybot and AdAware will not be true competitors unless they get a major
upgrade. Most of the new spyware is not detected or removed by them. Many
of you are going to be very surprised when you get a look at all the things
on your computer that the free scanners missed.

The spyware detection/removal field is very fluid right now. I doubt
whether Microsoft knows exactly what it will do in June or July.

Sunbelt says they may make their product, CounterSpy, which is a clone of
the Microsoft product, free for home users but sell the enterprise version.
They seem to have co ownership (?) of the antispyware code until 2007 (?).

Anyway 6 months is 2 internet years. Who knows what will happen.

We have been given a great gift by Microsoft. Use it.

Not to mention it would put a huge dent in the spyware,
adware, and malware industry. If it's kept free it'll
also give Microsoft a better reputation among the entire
computer based industry.

Keeping the service free would alos ease peoples mind
that the fuctionality of Spyware and Malware wasnt put
there by MS itself. :O .. (just like viruses arnt written
by the antivirus companies!!) Yeah right...

This should have been included in service pack 2. We
already payed $200 for windows XP pro, we shouldn't have
to pay any more.

Bundling it may cause anti competition issues, especially
when MS launch the AV tools they bought last year.
