O.K. so I am not an expert, but I thought since I have
all microsoft products, that the way this was advertised on the web site, that it would be just an awesome tool!!! The download went smooth, as did the scan and setting up the other options, and it found supposedly 9 severe threats in 23 files, and the recommendation was to remove them immediately as I was being EXPOSED, I thought this was fantastic, since I just ran Mcaffe virus scan and no infected files were found, ran lavasoft adaware and they found 7 neglible objects, and of course the never ending saga of DSO Expolit entries on Spybot S and D. I finally thought it was a perfect marriage no spyware, worms trojans or viruses. When I tried to get on the internet I did not have access, I did not have my start page either and I kept getting warnings about the MPFSERVICE.EXE is unable to locate components, this application has failed to start because SPORDER.dll was not found, reinstalling the application might help, mscifapp.exe, can not be found components missing, also please reinstall your mcafee privacy service, components missing, the first severe threat warning from microsoft was the windows system 32 sporder.dll as severe!!! I thought I was doing the right thing by deleting all these items that they called out as severe spyware threats, I do not know now what the heck I deleted if it was right or wrong now,(I did this both to my computer and my husbands), I had to re-b oot several times, nothing, I then had to remove the ms beta programs from both computers and do a system restore to a point before the download, it is now 4 1/2 hours into all of this crap, and I believe Mr Bill needs to get his group together and work out all the kinks before they have a free offering to people like me, who think they are getting a reputable product. I did not know there was NO SUPPORT on this until, well here I am, a first for me, posting to a news group, must be nice Mr. Bill to have the public getting all the kinks out of your software for you, free of any labor charge...please step up to the plate and give us something that will work without issues...I do not have any training in computer software or hardware and rely on companies like you to make it easier for me, without having to get a degree in computer engineering........ |

beryl,
Sorry that your system had issues with this BETA release but you should beware of potential issues when installing any BETA release : " Beta Support Policy * Important Information: This is pre-release (beta) software distributed for feedback and testing purposes. Microsoft does not provide technical support for beta releases (see below for information about how to gain access to newsgroups). If Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) is causing an issue with your system, we recommend removing it by using Add or Remove Programs and even using System Restore if the problem persists. " This BETA release has not been advertised, but rather contains a description of it. FYI, have installed on 2 different systems so far with only minor bugs in the program present. No untoward effect on either system, so far. That is why they call it a Beta Version and give you the
warning. >-----Original Message----- >O.K. so I am not an expert, but I thought since I have >all microsoft products, that the way this was advertised >on the web site, that it would be just an awesome tool!!! >The download went smooth, as did the scan and setting up >the other options, and it found supposedly 9 severe >threats in 23 files, and the recommendation was to remove >them immediately as I was being EXPOSED, I thought this >was fantastic, since I just ran Mcaffe virus scan and no >infected files were found, ran lavasoft adaware and they >found 7 neglible objects, and of course the never ending >saga of DSO Expolit entries on Spybot S and D. What firewall are you running?
It appears you have some misconceptions about beta with this statement: "rely on the beta to resolve issues". FYI: Never rely on a beta to resolve anything. One of the key the reasons for beta is to find out what it breaks ![]() -- -Jon G xpguru@gmail.com "saigalt" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0cb401c4f5f0$a4191580$a501280a@phx.gbl... > well....you guys are the experts ...but i am inthe > similar position as beryl....rely onthe beta to resolve > issues ....and now i donthave the firewal running . > Removed the damned AS beta ,,,stilldont have the > fierewall running ...so now Iam spending my weekend > scouring all the newsgroups for a solution !!! >>-----Original Message----- >>beryl, >> >>Sorry that your system had issues with this BETA release > but you should >>beware of potential issues when installing any BETA > release : >> >>" Beta Support Policy >> >> * Important Information: >> This is pre-release (beta) software distributed > for feedback and >>testing purposes. In general the word "BETA" (in software terms anyway) means: "not ready for
prime time, so put it on a test machine, and let us know what does not work" But... because the program was advertised on the main page and in the press with such great fan-fare, and most people don't read anything having to do with the software aggrements or instructions, they put on thier machine anyway, and The average Joe (or Joesephine) don't understand what "testing", "beta" mean in software terms, they just install it, with the same reagard as they would put gas in the car, or answer a phone. But I think if more people read about what happens when they take certian actions a lot of this software would not be needed anyway. That being said, Maybe MS should have had a more restriced beta, or have BIGGER WORDS ON THE INSTRUCTIONS, to get peoples attention on what this test software actually is, "A Test" "beryl" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:031301c4f46a$27694e60$a501280a@phx.gbl... > O.K. so I am not an expert, but I thought since I have > all microsoft products, that the way this was advertised > on the web site, that it would be just an awesome tool!!! > The download went smooth, as did the scan and setting up > the other options, and it found supposedly 9 severe > threats in 23 files, and the recommendation was to remove > them immediately as I was being EXPOSED, I thought this > was fantastic, since I just ran Mcaffe virus scan and no > infected files were found, ran lavasoft adaware and they > found 7 neglible objects, and of course the never ending > saga of DSO Expolit entries on Spybot S and D.
