Default Check for updates

Hi
On March 2nd I downloaded Microsoft Spyware. I have
checked each day for updates, but my Spyware definitions
are telling me it was updated on March 2nd to version
5693, definitions currently up tp date. Shouldn't the
date change each day that I check for updates. I am
worrid that my spyware is not loading any new virus
updates. Am I doing something wrong. I update for new
viruses by clicking on 'Definitions' and also by 'File
then Update', but they both do the same thing. Thanks for
any help.
Pat.

Hi

Dont be worried ! I think this function works with mostly
all PC´s but this is a Beta and to do manual checks can
be a "good practice".

One thing you wrote "loading any new virus update", this
is not a antivirusprogram, this is for antispyware.

You then also need an updated Antivirusprogram. Maybe
you have one but to be sure i write this.

This is for free if you dont want to buy one.

This is a good startpoint to learn more about safety.

Hi

I think for sure that MSAS update works, but this is
a Betaversion so you can´t be guaranteed that it works.

One important thing missing from MS is that we don´t have
a webpage which showing us what latest definitions are.

So if you follow this newsgroups you will see messages
about new definitions, also about Beta 2 when it arrives.

"Workaround"
Manual checks about version, Menu Help-About
Manual check fur updates, Menu File-Check for updates.

Pat - you are on the most current set of definitions. Antispyware
definition updates are not frequent in the experience of this beta. Often
as seldom as once a week or somewhat more.

I would say that a new set is "due" soon--keep an eye on the announcements
group--usually someone announces the new definitions there. If you run
File, Check for updates, and do not receive any error message, I believe
that your update functionality is likely working just fine.

Bill

I think it´s important to show latest version and latest
signatur
within MSAS homepage. As from every antivirus vendors homepage.

Easy to fix for a MS.

Something can be wrong with the update function, i´ve seen
a lot of blocked "Live update" - Norton Antivirus .

This function will also be attacked from malware makers.

I agree with you--I think this is a good suggestion. Not sure they'll do it
though--it adds a layer of complexity and coordination to the definition
release process.

Well, thats for sure a strange place to find about latest
version
and definition compared with ALL antivirus vendors.
But this is MS so they perhaps thinks that a normal user
search kb:s about this............... ?

IMHO
