I just installed MS AntiSpy and did a full, deep scan -
it found 21 problems, I deleted 8 and quarantined the rest. Then I ran the online Panda AV and it found like 80+ spyware issues? IS AntiSpy really missing all this? Here are a couple of possibilities--I can't tell for sure, because in the
one scan with Panda I did on my own machine the results got lost--I really don't like the way their scan presents results as a popup. 1) Microsoft antispyware doesn't scan for cookies. So--likely some of these results are cookies--and your list doesn't enable us to tell that. 2) Other scanners that I've seen so far don't exclude Microsoft Antispyware's quarantine area from scanning--so stuff in the quarantine may well be listed. -- FAQ for Microsoft Antispyware: http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm "whyme@bluebottel.com" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:429201c52052$98e21e50$a401280a@phx.gbl... >I just installed MS AntiSpy and did a full, deep scan - > it found 21 problems, I deleted 8 and quarantined the > rest. Hi i cannot really comment on why MS Antispy missed all
these things(except its still a beta testing product at present and is being improved with the help of these forums) but i would advise you get some protection products on your pc as you virtually have every piece of scumware available looking at the Panda log,Hopefully Panda has sorted them but if you need any help let us know and id be glad to assist, You should get Spybot Search & Destroy and use the immunize feature and update at least every 2 weeks plus id recommend both Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard to prevent similar attacks,All products are free and can be accessed easily of the net and will save you alot of hassle in the long run General Tips: (If you have only picked a adware/trojan up then use the system restore to go back to a point when you know your pc was clean) if not then it needs to be turned off as the restore files are protected and removal products cannot delete files from there so trojans/viruses etc.. usually leave files there to prevent complete removal First: Turn off Windows XP System Restore (Start,Right click my computer,Properties, then system restore and disable and apply) Next: Enable viewing of hidden files and folders and extensions; Some programs can hide this way by not being visible in Windows. Start Windows Explorer and click on your main hard drive, usually c:\. Then select Tools from the top of Windows Explorer and then Folder Options. Go to the View tab. Scroll down to the folder icon that says Hidden files and folders and check show hidden files and folders. Also, right below it, uncheck the hide file extensions for known types. How to boot into Safe Mode Reboot the system and tap F8, choose Safe Mode. Deleting Temp Internet Files: Open a internet browser window, click Tools then Internet Options. Click on the Delete Cookies and the Delete Files buttons, then click OK and close the browser window. Delete Windows Temporary Files - (start, run then type %temp% delete all files you can in this folder The Windows temporary directory (usually located at C:\windows\temp). Id recommend using these free products: Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php? id=2471&file=11&evp=2470f9bfb0cc682334ff8c4459556118 Ad-aware SE http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php? id=506&file=11&evp=8dbaff7daca8f4b55bf695220993fc0f SpywareBlaster http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php? id=2859&file=11&evp=61b0e8ad41924a03c37615f4682b4cef CWShredder http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe Spyware Guard http://www.javacoolsoftware.net/dow...pywareguardsetu p.exe And For Virus And Trojan Scanning http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hou.../start_corp.asp http://security.norton.com/sscv6/default.asp? langid=ie&venid=sym http://www.pandasoftware.com/active.../activescan_pri ncipal.htm http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/ Regards Andy |

Bill,
Panda just started scanning for spyware during the online scan. Two points here: 1. It does identify cookies; 2. It doesn't remove spyware, just tells you that you have it. I ran it on a box last night and Panda did rip a trojan out of the MWAS Quarantine corral. Trend Micro's scanner does spyware (and checks for critical patches) and
DOES remove. (and I like it better in terms of how it works and displays results, but the cleanup UI is attrocious (you must choose in a dropdown box for every cookie!) and it didn't really find anything but cookies on my machine. It did find one item that it said was real malware, but it doesn't give the specifics of the item involved, and I read all about the bug and couldn't find any of the more obvious pieces on my system. I did let it remove it, though! -- FAQ for Microsoft Antispyware: http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm "Ron Chamberlin" <ronchamberlin@msnmsn.com> wrote in message news:O5bg4jGIFHA.2368@cpmsftngsa05.privatenews.microsoft.com... > Bill, > Panda just started scanning for spyware during the online scan. > Two points here: 1.
