I have an old Gateway Pentium II system that runs Windows XP fine, slow but
fine. I thought I'd try the MS Spyware Beta on it and I can't get it to run. I guess this means that it is not compatible with the Pentium II, right? -- Ambrose F. If it is a PII-300 or better, it should work. I have it working on a couple
of such machines. http://www.microsoft.com/athome/sec...quirements.mspx Do you get an error message of any kind? Can you describe what happens? -- FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.txt "Buddy Morel" <bmorel@accesstoledo.com> wrote in message news:u6H749jAFHA.1496@CPMSFTNGSA04.privatenews.microsoft.com... >I have an old Gateway Pentium II system that runs Windows XP fine, slow but >fine. Nope, it's a P II 233MHz. I guess 300 is the bottom limit.

How does it fail--does it give you any idea why it doesn't work? It'd be
nice if it would fail gracefully and let the user know what the issue really is, but I guess that may be too much to expect from the Windows installer (!?) -- FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.txt "Buddy Morel" <bmorel@accesstoledo.com> wrote in message news:OQ4$uWkAFHA.464@CPMSFTNGSA04.privatenews.microsoft.com... > Nope, it's a P II 233MHz. How much RAM in that system? I don't see why it should fail on 233MHz
anyway. Its still in beta, maybe the final version will be a little more flexible, because I have seen XP running on 233. It just says there was a serious error (Error 102) and to contact

Hmm - well--lots of other folks get that one--and others--101,102, and 103.
The generic cause seems to be "permissions"--not installing as an administrator, DCOM service not started. Some have reported success by installing in a non-standard location, c:\msas, for example. I'm getting confused about my advice between these three messages, I suspect, but you may be hitting a generic bug/issue, rather than the processor limitation. -- FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.txt "Buddy Morel" <bmorel@accesstoledo.com> wrote in message news:OuhvRblAFHA.1908@cpmsftngsa05.privatenews.microsoft.com... > It just says there was a serious error (Error 102) and to contact > GiantCompnay.com for Technical assistance. > > -- > > Ambrose F. And I forgot to mention the most important bit--you need to install as an
