I'm running Windows XP, and installed MS AntiSpyware last night. I have been running the initial scan for 16 hours now, and it is still not finished. How long should this usually take? Is there anything I can do to not have to keep it running? It seems to freeze up when the screen saver comes on, too, so I simply turned that off. Still... this doesn't seem right. |

Depends on the size of your HDD and the number of files,
size of registry etc. but 16 hrs is a bit extreme. Try using another scanner like AdAware or Spybot and see if they also take a long time. It takes about 10 minutes on my system with about 15 GB of stuff. TTFN. |

16 hours is way too long even for full scan. There should
be a number that tells you how many files AV has scanned. look if it increases. just for comparison, it took me 10 minutes to full scan a 12gig drive on a Athlon 2500+ w/1024MB ram and 15 minutes on a P3 700Mhz lappy with 8 gig hdd >-----Original Message----- >Depends on the size of your HDD and the number of files, >size of registry etc. but 16 hrs is a bit extreme. It seems to get hung up on registry keys. It's been running for an hour or so now (after running Adware, which only took a few minutes). It's at 60,000 registry keys infected, and keeps counting. It hit 265,000 overnight before it locked up this morning when I tried to see if I could do something about it. Please help - the Adware removal didn't seem to make any difference. Thanks. >-----Original Message----- >16 hours is way too long even for full scan. do you mean 60,000 registry scanned or infected? Cuz if you have that much
infected registry keys, then either you have some serious problem on your computer or it's a bug. you can also try to run a reg scaner/fixer. sorry, I can't remember the name of any but I'm sure you can find one at download.com "Matti" <matti422@comcast.net> wrote in message news:21ef01c4f8e4$cb1eecd0$a501280a@phx.gbl... > > It seems to get hung up on registry keys.
