In the final release, this product should be centrally
managed and updated - like SUS/WUS. For all those people with questions about cost or subscription, I would bet my bottom dollar this will be included in the next XP service pack and updates will be available through MS servers (like LiveUpdate for MS.) I couldn't guess for how long they'll be free, though. Personally, I've always been amazed MS hasn't bought an antivirus product and given a free one year subscription. There's a major vaccuum here that got so bad another company (AOL) felt they could fill it and score points with consumers. With all their bad press and their Trustworthy Computing initiative, MS missed a huge opportunity here. Clearly, there's a reason they decided not to, and I can't fathom why. |

They've done the next closest thing - partnered with Computer Associates to give away the CA product for 1 year free. MS doesn't have to incur the costs of development and maintenence that way, and both companys get the press / political pat on the back for helping to keep environments safe. |
