Default CoolWebSearch

Will this be able to successfully remove the
CoolWebSearch spyware which the others (spybot/adaware)
seem unable to remove?

I would be interested in knowing. My friends friend cannot get it removed. I
will have to send him the link to this beta and see if it does it.

Has your friend tried the latest CWShredder, version 2.12, available here:

http://www.aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.exe

I used CWSShredder on my home machine, it was the only
tool that seemed to clean up the cool websearch spyware.

I think so, not sure. Maybe it was an older version? I'll ping him tonight.

I seemed to remove it from one of my machines I tested on.

There seems to be a newer version of CWS that is VERY hard to remove.

I don't know the answer w/regard to the MS antispyware---haven't run it on a
CWS infected machine yet--but that version is brand new, and worth trying.

I had to disable System restore, disable norton
autoprotoect, disable norton waste basket, go into safe
mode, run spybot and CWshredder, run HiJack this and
remove CoolWebSearch entries from host file, then reboot
and go back into normal mode to get rid of CWS. It
worked.

It can be very tough to get rid of--as you've found.

Congratulations on your persistence and success!
