Default Windows 2K problem with new beta spyware

After I installed and ran the new microsoft beta software
I quarantined and removed some identified spyware as
recommended. When I rebooted I lost TCP/IP access
properties to the Internet. Although it shows that I have
TCP/IP I cannot get on the Internet.
I did unquarantine the spyware and uninstalled the
Microsoft Beta Spyware but I still have the same problem.
Any hints as to what went wrong.

I ran winsockxpfix.exe from
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
and it fixed what the beta software broke. Now I am able
to ping and get back on the internet.
