Can not connect to the Internet after running Anti Spyware

I ran the Spyware and now I get "The page cannot be
displayed" when I try to go to the Internet. I tried IE,
and Netscape. I used DSL and also Dial-up and no success.
I tried to restore but do not have a file to restore. I
am on XP SP1. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Some spyware, and some other modules perhaps found as
false positives by the
program, are Winsock LSP's. When such a bit of code is
removed, the Winsock
LSP stack must be repaired.

For Windows XP, Service Pack 2, do this, at a command
prompt:

netsh winsock reset

enter
restart machine.

For other versions of windows covered by this beta,
follow the instructions
in the following KB article:

us;817571

After either procedure, you may need to reinstall third-
party software which
adds its own LSP's to the stack.

I'm getting a similar problem with a windows 2000 pro
box. This is a clean rebuild of a computer. Deleted the
partitions and all that jazz. However, when it comes to
downloading from the internet, if I directly download the
file through IE or some other browser, works fine. If I
am downloading on a redirect, it fails with the message
server could not be found. The only difference between
this computer and the rest on my network is that I've
installed MS Antispyware on this system. I doubt the
winsock fix will do anything for me here.

Anyone got suggestions?

I don't know what you mean when you say "downloading on a redirect" I'm
afraid.

When you say this is a clean rebuild: 1) you installed the OS to a clean
partition--did you then reinstall all available critical patches and service
packs? (i.e. are you on SP4?)

2) you've then installed Microsoft Antispyware. Have you, in fact, cleaned
anything off this machine using Microsoft Antispyware? I'm trying to be
sure that the effect involved relates to the simple installation, rather
than a side effect of some removal operation.

If what I think I hear--that you see this as a side effect of the simple
installation of the tool--is the case--what happens if you uninstall?

If you can clearly document the effect going away upon uninstallation, and
returning with re-installation, and can give a step-by-step test someone can
use to clearly demonstrate the effect you are seeing, that's just what beta
testing is all about, and it would be great to have that data.

This happened to me and RR couldn't help me nor could a PC
technician. I went to the Microsoft "How-to articles -
repair/Recovery and look for Article ID 281679 or try to
do the following: 1. quit all running programs 2. Click
START and then click RUN 3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and
then click ok. This worked like magic - one second and I
was back on line! Let me know if it works - good luck!
