I too have a problem with manual update on the
Antispyware Beta 1. I have loaded the Antispyware on two XP Home machines running a simple network using Internet Connection Sharing with a Linksys hub. The ICS host machine produces the error message -- "Updates have failed. AutoUpdater could not detect an Internet Connection." The ICS client machine manaul update works fine. (Both machine still connect to the internet with all other programs.) I've tried: - Disabling Norton firewall - Disabling Norton antivirus - Removing and reinstalling Antispyware (the remove apparently left behind some registry entries as my settings were still there after reinstall. I haven't found any other program problems on either machine. -----Original Message----- From: "Bill Sanderson" <Bill_Sanderson@msn.com.plugh.org> Sent: 1/6/2005 9:05:48 PM Subject: Re: Manual update fails I've done a number of manual updates, on different machines, as well as automatic ones. What kind of a network are you folks on that are having this difficulty? Can you describe the network and how it connects to the Internet? |

I should have made it clear that the automatic update
works on both machines - the only problem is manual update on the ICS host. >-----Original Message----- >I too have a problem with manual update on the >Antispyware Beta 1. Heh, Now that's backwards. Out of curiousity what happens if you disable ICS
on the host temporarily, reboot and test? It shouldn't be having a problem determining which connection to use but let's find out. Alternatively, what happens if you temporarily assign the WAN Default Gateway to the ICS/LAN connectoid? Let us know if you can test it out. You can simply re-enable ICS after testing. I understand if you don't want to test it out ![]() -Jon <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0ec001c4f4c9$ab3f9050$a401280a@phx.gbl... >I should have made it clear that the automatic update > works on both machines - the only problem is manual > update on the ICS host. > >>-----Original Message----- >>I too have a problem with manual update on the >>Antispyware Beta 1. Disabled the ICS host and, to my surprise, it still
didn't work. I think it may be a "bad" install. After running the program uninstall, how do I remove the leftover registry entries so it'll do a complete new install? >-----Original Message----- >Heh, Now that's backwards. Thanks for replying. Let us know how things work out.
Do you have System Restore to use to move back to before you installed the app? If so, easiest method ![]() -- -Jon G xpguru@gmail.com <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0ddb01c4f501$94cafd40$a301280a@phx.gbl... > Disabled the ICS host and, to my surprise, it still > didn't work. Updates were temporarily unavailable earlier today. I think that accounts
for the symptom that started this thread. When you say you couldn't establish a internet broadband connection--say more: Did you run the product, scan, and remove something? Have you tried using System Restore to restore to a restore point established before the scan and remove operation? Hey,
I'm experiencing the same problem. I'm running a linksys router (seems to be the same router everyone else who is having this problem is running). If anyone has any ideas please let us know! I just got back in town and read one of your other posts
on resetting winsocks (ran netsh winsock reset). I tried that and it fixed the problem -- thanks very much. I do recall removing a "newdotnet" spyware from this machine about 6 months ago (have both Spybot Search and Destroy and LavaSoft Ad-Aware free versions installed). >-----Original Message----- >Thanks for replying.
