Manual update fails

On at least my system, try to do the manual update
outside of the program, it will not even connect.

I, also, can't do an update. I haven't had it long
enough to see if it'll do an automatic update. Has
anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution?

I've done a number of manual updates, on different machines, as well as
automatic ones.

What kind of a network are you folks on that are having this difficulty?
Can you describe the network and how it connects to the Internet?
