Default Virus Problem: vbs.redlof.a

How do I get rid of the vbs.redlof.a virus

I have Norton AntiVirus, and it's up to date. I've followed all of Symantec's instructions (as closely as possible, considering I couldn't find some of the files they told me to delete) for deleting the virus and reversing the changes it made to my registry. But the virus is still on my computer

Anybody know how to get rid of it

Also, what exactly does vbs.redlof.a actually do, besides infecting certain types of files? Should I be wary logging in anywhere with a password? Should I never send any kind of attachment to anyone ever again? Should I even send a plaintext email? I don't want to infect anybody else

Blah. I think we should bring back certain medieval punishments (e.g. drawing and quartering) to punish hackers.
