Default Anti virus knocking out my media player.

Can someone tell me why, whenever I install an anti virus programme my media player is unable to play dvd's
I have to uninstall the av and then use a restore point on windows xp before it will play them again.

Update your av to latest version. For example, Norton 2001 to 2004... If
can't or won't work, clear your event logs and try playing dvd with av on
again, then report the errors you get.

I'd avoid that particular "upgrade" path like the plague. Not only
because NAV costs money, but because NAV 2004 stealths in its own
commercial malware (DRM).

Running Windows-based av to kill active malware is like striking
a match to see if what you are standing in is water or petrol.
