I am unable to locate the subdirectory. Is it possible
that the there was no
archive activity? I do have a directory called
C:\winnt\service pack
files\i386 ?

If you chose to archive teh files before the SP installation you should have
that directory. If you don't have it you might not have chosen to archive
it. The directory you are referring to contains extracted Service Pack Files
and can be safely deleted.
