Our Windows 2000 Terminal Server clients are
intermittently getting Event ID 26 error ("The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006)") when executing an application exe file on a shared folder located in one of the local drives of the Windows 2000 Terminal Server. The shared folder (i.e. N:\apps) is mapped to a logical drive G: for all the terminal server clients. Intermittently on a busy day, executing G:\file1.exe results to an Event ID 26 error while executing N:\apps\file1.exe works fine. Appreciate any help. |

Which SP do you run on the server?

I am having the same problem with an installation of Terminal Services on
Server 2000. We're running SP4. Different users at different times will get messages that the application is unable to initialize. They may try three or four times; they may reboot a time or two. For no apparent reason it will then work again. It occurs to all users at one time or another. In our case we are using drive D:\apps which is mapped as drive H: Any help would be appreciated. SP3 on Windows 2000.
Citrix Metaframe 1.8 for Windows 2000 is loaded on this server with Citrix SP3. >-----Original Message----- >Which SP do you run on the server? > > -- >Vera Noest >MCSE, CCEA, Microsoft MVP - Terminal Server >http://hem.fyristorg.com/vera/IT > --- please respond in newsgroup --- > >"Patrick Barlis" <pbarlis@nifcu.org> wrote in news:0b9e01c39a7f >$b5337b80$a001280a@phx.gbl: > >> Our Windows 2000 Terminal Server clients are >> intermittently getting Event ID 26 error ("The application >> failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006)") when >> executing an application exe file on a shared folder >> located in one of the local drives of the Windows 2000 >> Terminal Server. Can you test if the problem disappears with SP4?
There's a post-SP3 hotfix that fixed a printing problem from a mapped network drive (hotfix is included in SP4). When SP3 had just been released, a lot of people reported not only problems with printing from mapped network drives, but also running applications from them. 328020 - Redirected Printing Through a Terminal Services Session May Not Work with Windows 2000 SP3 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=328020 I presume that the general performance of the server is still reasonably good when this happens and there is no limit on the number of connections to the network share? -- Vera Noest MCSE, CCEA, Microsoft MVP - Terminal Server http://hem.fyristorg.com/vera/IT --- please respond in newsgroup --- "Patrick Barlis" <pbarlis@nifcu.org> wrote in news:100301c39d7e $f99d46a0$a601280a@phx.gbl: > SP3 on Windows 2000. > Citrix Metaframe 1.8 for Windows 2000 is loaded on this > server with Citrix SP3. > > >>-----Original Message----- >>Which SP do you run on the server? >> >>Vera Noest >> >>"Patrick Barlis" <pbarlis@nifcu.org> wrote in > news:0b9e01c39a7f >>$b5337b80$a001280a@phx.gbl: >> >>> Our Windows 2000 Terminal Server clients are >>> intermittently getting Event ID 26 error ("The > application >>> failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006)") when >>> executing an application exe file on a shared folder >>> located in one of the local drives of the Windows 2000 >>> Terminal Server. Can I just apply the post SP3 HOT FIX (Q328020) and see if
this fixes the problem? Not ready yet to install Windows 2000 SP4 on a Citrix Metaframe 1.8 W2K server as I heard it is causing some issues. Also - I am not sure if this is enough for you - there is a post in this thread (Dave Maier's)indicating the same problem and they are running SP4 on their W2K server.. Appreciate your help. >-----Original Message----- >Can you test if the problem disappears with SP4? >There's a post-SP3 hotfix that fixed a printing problem from a >mapped network drive (hotfix is included in SP4). Sure, you can phone Microsoft Support and ask for the hotfix only.
Note that this suggestion is a rather wild guess from my side. There could be a lot of other causes as well. Are there any other symptoms when this occurs? Since you mention that this happens when the server is rather busy, you might also check this pre-SP5 hotfix: 813130 - A Computer May Lose Network Connectivity Under High Stress http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813130 -- Vera Noest MCSE, CCEA, Microsoft MVP - Terminal Server http://hem.fyristorg.com/vera/IT --- please respond in newsgroup --- "Patrick Barlis" <pbarlis@nifcu.org> wrote in news:066b01c39db1 $5debe9e0$a301280a@phx.gbl: > Can I just apply the post SP3 HOT FIX (Q328020) and see if > this fixes the problem? I installed HOT FIX 328020 but the application is still
giving the same error (failed to initialize properly 0xc0000006). Clients are not losing connectivity to the server so I think 813130 - A Computer May Lose Network Connectivity Under High Stress - is not applicable. >-----Original Message----- >Sure, you can phone Microsoft Support and ask for the hotfix only. >Note that this suggestion is a rather wild guess from my side. >There could be a lot of other causes as well. >Are there any other symptoms when this occurs? I just found the Microsoft KB article 818528 "Problems
When More Than One User Accesses the Same File Through Terminal Services". This article refers also to MS KB article 294816 which discussed the error 'c0000006'. I have just installed the hot fix provided by Microsoft for this article (818528) and hopefully this fixes our problem. >-----Original Message----- >I installed HOT FIX 328020 but the application is still >giving the same error (failed to initialize properly >0xc0000006).
