I am trying to upgrade a windows Millenium PC to Windows
2000 professional using an upgrade verion of the product. After checking for compatability, I get a "Winnt32.dll has caused an error in Kernel32" error when the process is about 75% complete. In an attempt to resolve this I removed all unnecessary programs including Norton AV 2003, have 30 GB free of 40 total, and ran checkdisk. I have also tried both options to convert to NTFS and not to... same result. The CD is brand new... just out of the box. Any suggestions TIA, Ken .. |

Windows ME came out after Win 2k. This is not an upgrade it is a downgrade.
You need to boot from the Win 2k CD and perform a clean install. hth DDS W 2k MVP MCSE "Ken Doerbecker" <kdoerbecker@psipc.com> wrote in message news:11ae201c3f57c$7f5061b0$a001280a@phx.gbl... > I am trying to upgrade a windows Millenium PC to Windows > 2000 professional using an upgrade verion of the product. > After checking for compatability, I get a "Winnt32.dll > has caused an error in Kernel32" error when the process > is about 75% complete. > In an attempt to resolve this I removed all unnecessary > programs including Norton AV 2003, have 30 GB free of 40 > total, and ran checkdisk. > I have also tried both options to convert to NTFS and not > to... same result.
