Default Upgrading Win 98SE to Win 2000 Pro

I have the same problem with upgrading as discussed by
others. I have tried both upgrade and clean install with
same results, system halts on starting Win 2000. All
hardware I have is integrated on the motherboard and is
only a month old. I would expect everything to be
compliant but I have no way of removing installed
hardware. Any suggestions?

Options to look at:

1) BIOS upgrade
2) Disable offending hardware in BIOS - LAN, Audio, etc.

>I disabled Audio, LAN, USB in the setup and attempted to

install Windows 2000 with the same results. I put the
drive in another computer and tried the install. When the
setup got to the same place the setup hesitated and then
proceeded to install. Evidently there must be an
incompatible driver or bios but I'm not sure how to
upgrade the bios. The only hardware I did not disable is
the IDE which I felt would prevent the install if
disabled. Suggestions or guidance on Bios upgrade without
direct access to internet and without an OS.
