Default installing Internet Explorer 6 SP1 damages system - can't reboot any more afterwards...

I have now here already the second machine, where installing the
"Cumulative Security update for Internet Explorer 6 (KB824145)"
reproducible stalls the machine such that the system can't reboot any
more but hangs with a "Loader error 3. Contact your support personal
(haha - very funny!) " message.

What are these MS goofies doing here???

On one system I tried to recover from this by doing an in-place
upgrade (in order to re-install a working system while sparing me from
re-installing all my apps again), but that just yielded a bluescreen
during the second reboot ("KMode trap not handled...").

So I finally reinstalled my prior backup, which got me going again,
but of course I now presumably have a couple of widely gaping security
holes in my system that I can't fix. I am really delighted by MS's
rock-stable error recovery and upgrade procedures. !$#%@
