Windows takes long time to load

Hi,

I have this problem. My Windows 2000 server seems to take forever to load.
When it boot up, the "Applying Computer Settings" takes a long long time.
After keying in the password, it takes a long time to load again; "Loading
your Personal settings".

I came across one MSKB article. It says by pointing the DNS to our local DNS
server, it should solve the problem. I did it and it really solve it.
However, this makes the server not able to connect to the Internet and
domain users cannot access the server shared folders.

This makes me change the DNS settings again to point to an outside DNS. The
old problem came back again; Windows seems to takes forever to load.

Anyone has any idea?

it is almost always DNS. Read MY dns paper in the download section of
mcse2000.com first.

You may have a couple of problems, do this:
Make sure the "." Forward Lookup Zone is deleted in your DNS server You can
add a forwarder to your ISP's DNS if you want, in any case point all
machines including the server to the private address of the DNS server for
DNS in TCP/IP properties *only*
On the interfaces tab of the DNS server properties set DNS to listen only on
the private IP address

For your Nethood to work you need to have NetBIOS enabled over TCP/IP on the
WINS tab of your TCP/IP properties

In the Network and Dial up connections Control Panel in the Advance menu
select Advanced Settings
Make sure your private network interface is at the top of the connections
list and that File and Printer Sharing and Client for Microsoft Networks are
enabled and bound to TCP/IP and that TCP/IP are at the top of the binding
order if you have multiple protocols installed.
