hyperterm and telnet problems

both theses apps when connected to TCP socket do same ?incorrect? behavior
....

both apps send a char as soon as you type it followed by carriage return
(and NL if configured to)
i want to be able to type a few characters first then hit Enter which will
then send all the chars typed followed by the <CR><NL> sequence.

how to do? what options etc ?
