I'm being facetious of course, but I tried updating my rock-solid W2K
desktop machine a few weeks ago and it was crash and burn. Thankfully, I saved the files and uninstalled the update and my machine is once again stable. I did a Goggle search on the updates and there are literally hundreds of newsgroup posts showing an uncanny number of problematic attempts to install the latest updates. I'll give MS a little slack, and hope that maybe some genius in their marketing department pays attention to all the pleas for help... and has instructed their techies to come up with a step-by-step procedure so that we can update without having our machines crash, crash, and crash. So the question of the hour is just that; Has Microsoft posted a layman's guide to updating W2K in a Knowledge Base article? My two home desktop(s) are on a LAN behind a LinkSys Cable/DSL Router and LinkSys Switch, and I have a IBM T21 notebook that I connect via the switch occassionally. Is it imperitve to update as the administrator in each machine or can I logon asa a user? Thanks in advance for any tips and advice! Mike |

Gee... I asked this question a month ago, and never got one single
response. Is this NG monitored by anyone resembling a Microsoft MVP who can explain why my system crashes every single time I try to install the service pack? Is there a knowledge base article on why hundreds if not thousands of us are having so many problems with this particular SP? Every other SP installed in a flash. Mike |
