Greetings. I too am suffering this c0000218 stop error as it relates to th corrupt hive file SOFTWARE. I have tried all the MS fixes and even suggestions from various forum all to no avail. I am currently left with few possibilities. RAM or HD {new} may be bad. You see, I had a successful install of Win2k SP4 and Sunday morning i failed with a different error. A corrupt winnt\system32\config\syste file. The MS articles resolved that, but now its te \winnt\system32\config\SOFTWARE file. I ended up reformatting that drive and tried an install (NTFS) and i started to install and failed with the c000218 error. Am ready t pitch the box out despite hundreds of dollars invested. Help if you can, please - PFSmit ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted via http://www.mcse.m ----------------------------------------------------------------------- View this thread: http://www.mcse.ms/message429112.htm |

Starting with RAM and including other major components not forgetting the power supply. A hardware group might be of more assistance in this area. |

Hi guys, Since I last posted I have done a lot. It turns out my new 80 gig Western Digital HD will not accept an recognition of itself unless it is coupled with another drive. Odd. Anyway, that WD drive was my OS drive and is hosed. My second drive has a lot of my data, but not all. In the last four days I have tried many ways to wittle this down an the OS thing never cleared, but I did find out about the drive. Yo see, it is weird to me because I have nothing fancy on that box. It is: CPU= AMD Athlon 1.25 slot 462 MB= MSI K7N2 Delta (no Raid) HD0= WD 80 Gig (not in place now) HD1= ASUS 40 Gig (installed) RAM= 2x256 DDRAM VIDEO= ATI RADEON 7500 AGP/ switched to Voodoo 3 PCI in case the AG was the problem. I am using my backup box that is Lindows. I will get the new drive an use your input and see what I get. Also, I noted in a search that this exact problem has suddenly croppe up in the last 2 months in larger numbers, although the problem goe back a few years. Various forums have this issue addressed. I simpl chose here because you all are so cool. This is one KB article I had not read yet. I wil certainly see if that applies when I have the new drive. I am gettin a Seagate this time as I have lost faith in WD. One thing from that article was that SP 3 and later had the fix. have W2Ksp4 - PFSmit ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted via http://www.mcse.m ----------------------------------------------------------------------- View this thread: http://www.mcse.ms/message429112.htm |
