I am running xp home and caught a worm/virus that causes
my computer to reboot before I can login to windows get to my desktop (including safe mode). I have installed a new hard drive (as a master) installed xp home. My problem is that I cannot access the folders that are under my profile on my old hard drive. I have tried 1. sharing the folders 2. accessing the folders through the command prompt using the cacls command. I was told that I could reload windows without losing my data however when I attempt to either reistall or repair windows I get the blue screen of death with a 'BAD_POOL_CALLER' message after I select either install or repair. I ran the Blaster worm removal tools on my old drive and they did not find the worm (although according to the security alerts my computer showed the symptoms of blaster worm). I know the data is there I just can't get at it. Any help would be appreciated. |

When you set up your new profile, did you use the identical
logon information? If not, you're (effectively) not the owner of that data. If you put that drive into a computer with a less robust OS (Win98 for example), you might be able to get past the security hurdles MS has instituted in XP. >-----Original Message----- >I am running xp home and caught a worm/virus that causes >my computer to reboot before I can login to windows get to >my desktop (including safe mode). Damien;
It is a simple Ownership issue as Nicholas suggests. Same name and password will not help. Since the files were private, that also means NTFS was used. Since NTFS was used, installing the drive in a Windows 9x computer would accomplish nothing. Generally you do not bypass one security feature with a lesser security or in the case of Windows 9x, no security. -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] An easier way to read newsgroup messages: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...roups/setup.asp http://dts-l.org/index.html "Damien" <dstella@gci.net> wrote in message news:125d01c37812$34941410$a601280a@phx.gbl... > When you set up your new profile, did you use the identical > logon information?
