Dropping connection when trying to update

Earlier today I installed support pack 1 on my Pavillion,
as directed by the updates website. I am now trying to
install the updates and am getting knocked offline before
the update site can even scan my system.

I saw error 0x80072578 in the log file - in response to
it, I shutdown McAfee and Proxyconn. I also added the
trusted sites and the other suggestion (can't remember it
now) to add the microsoft update sites to another list.

I then saw error 0x800C0008. I checked and do have a
language. I removed my cookies. When trying to remove
files, however, my system hung up.
