Hi,
When ever I try to install Sp1(beta version) on windows 2003 i get the message as "Serice Pack 1 setup cannot update a hecked (debug) system with a free (retail) version of Service Pack 1, or vice versa." I get this error even while updating the security patches. "KB***** setup cannot update a checked (debug) system with a free ( retail ) version of KB*****, or vice versa." Not able to get what could be the problem regards, KAH |

It sounds like you are running the debug version of Windows Server 2003. Did
you install Windows from Retail, MSDN, volume license, or other media? Kevin McNiel, MCSE/MCSA Platform Server Setup Group This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Hi Kevin,
Windows 2003 was installed from the MSDN Licenced Cd. Actually the problem was solved after changeing the Registry key.. "Check the "CurrentType" registry value here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion This will say something like "Multiprocessor Free" or "Multiprocessor Checked", depending on the build you have. You can try changing this value at your own risk. It might allow the SP to install, but I don't know what the side effects will be." But once installing the SP1 and restarting the System.. we were not able to access any of Microsoft Management Console. It was not even possible for us to open the Event viewer and see. But after uninstalling the SP1 the MMC was working fine. But user wanted to work on SP1... so after installing it again... the OS is crashed. it is not booting up. It just goes in to the Safe Mode i.e while loading the drivers and hangs there. Even booting with the LKGM did not work... is there any solution to come out from this other than reinstalling the OS. regards, KAH "Kevin McNiel [MSFT]" wrote: > It sounds like you are running the debug version of Windows Server 2003.
