Repainting with overlapping windows

How do I redraw the contents of a window when an overlapping window from
another application invalidates part of the window?

I receive several WM_ERASEBKGND messages before a WM_PAINT. It seems that
the window is not being redrawn often enought.

Does anyone have a good technique for handling this case?
